THE LOYALTY OF GOCAH WARRIOR AS A SIGN OF DELI MALAY SELF IDENTITY TO THE KINGS

Abstract

Gocah Pahlawan adalah seorang wira sebagai lambang keagungan keturunan kesultanan Deli. Keagungan tersebut sudah terpatri kuat dalam sejarah sasilah kesultanan Deli yang dikukuhkan lagi melalui hasil karya agung masyarakat Deli dalam Hikayat Keturunan Raja Negeri Deli.i Salah satu keagungan tersebut menjadi jati diri masyarakat Melayu Deli dengan makna kesetiaan terhadap raja atau pemerintah yang dizahirkan melalui watak tokoh Gocah Pahlawan. 

Gocah Pahlawan was a Deli Malay warrior and symbolised the golden era of the Deli sultanate. The glory of the era was tightly bound to the lineage of the Deli sultanate and further reinforced by the writings of the Deli people entitled “Hikayat Keturunan Raja Negeri Deli.ii One of the prominent values that defines the Malay Deli is his loyalty to kings as exemplified by the warrior Gocah Pahlawan.
